Five superlative extra virgin olive oils were lauded as the cream of the 2015 harvest at the Absa Top 5.Here are the winner as announced on the day, in no particular order:
The first awarded winning olive oil is in the medium style and the judges complimented the lovely floral noted with sweet apple and green fruits. Congratulations to Porterville Olive for their ABSATop5 winner: Andante Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Moving to an intense style award winner. It is a very balanced oil with a floral bouquet, mint and a nutty taste. Congratulations Mulderbosch Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Also in the intense style. the judges attributed sweet, floral and cocao tastes to the oil. Also artichokes and walnut skins, even olive leaves. Congratulations to Kransfontein for their ABSATop5 winner: Coratina Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Another intense style oil grabs an award this year. This oil displays character of tomato leaves and green tomato, as well as notes of basil. Another congratulations to Porterville Olive for their ABSATop5 winner: Andante Intenso.
Lastly, the final winner is a medium style oil with a lovely green nose with herbaceous and floral flavour. Congratulations to Kleinood Farm’s De Boerin Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Here are the finalists:
