Sol d’Oro Southern Hemisphere – SA Results

Sol d’Oro Southern Hemisphere is dedicated to extra virgin olive oils produced in countries south of the Equator. The special characteristic of Sol d’Oro Southern Hemisphere is that it plays out as a roadshow, with editions held on a rotating basis in the olive oil producer countries south of the Equator.

After Chile (2014) and South Africa (2015), this year the 5th Sol d’Oro Southern Hemisphere was held in Australia, Melbourne on the 9th of September 2016.

The judges serving on the tasting panel were made up of international panelists under the guidance of Marino Giorgetti, Panel Leader of Sol d’Oro since its first edition in 2002. The Competition has three categories: delicate fruity, medium fruity, intense fruity.

The olive oils that took awards during Sol d’Oro Southern Hemisphere, alongside the winners of Sol d’Oro Northern Hemisphere in December 2017, will be presented to international buyers at the Oil Bar during the next edition of Sol&Agrifood (9-12 April 2017) and included in the “Sol d’Oro” Stellar Guide published every year by Veronafiere and distributed to buyers and journalists from all over the world.

Feedback from the event feeds yet another confidence boost for our industry:

From a quantitative point of view, output was good in South Africa, with +15% compared to 2015, while Chile an unusual performance, with less production in the south of the country, where olives are mainly grown, while good weather conditions in the north ensured a plentiful harvest; the situation in Australia was similar, with “patchy” out that prevented higher production levels. – Veronafiere Press Office
