Follow The Olive: Nocellara del Belice

This cultivar originates in Sicily and is used for natural green processing and for high quality oil extraction. Although there are many different “Nocellara”-type cultivars in Sicily, this is currently the only representative in South Africa.

Fruit is medium large, about 5 to 8 g, roundish, medium flesh to pit ratio and freestone.

Nocellara del Bellice is very susceptible to anthracnose, olive leaf spot, and the major soil-borne root diseases, but shows some resistance to Cercospora.
