About Olyvenbosch Estate:
Olyvenbosch is in Windmeul, Agter Paarl on the Northern slopes of the Paarl Mountain range with views of Table Mountain in the distance. When the farm was purchased in 2004 by the van Eyssen family, it was planted with 22ha of table grapes supplying the export table grape market.

During the first 4 years additions were made to the lifestyle component of the farm and in 2009 a strategic business diversification decision was made to remove 5ha of table grapes and replant 2650 olive trees. The following year another 5000 trees were planted on undeveloped land. The first olive oil was pressed in 2012 with a small Oliomio press and 1500L of Olyvenbosch olive oil went into the market. With a growing demand for quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil the farm soon needed to buy olives from other growers to process olive oil and by 2017 a larger Oliomio press was added to the production line.

Oil Maker & 2017 Harvest:
Our oil maker, Niel Botha, started pressing oil in 2012. That was the first oil I made from the trees that we planted in 2009. After winning a few silver medals this gold is a very special one. The 2017 harvest was the most challenging one so far. The olives were earlier ripe than usual and the oil much more “bitter” than we knew. We established a market in the delicate style, so it was a challenge to produce an EVOO in the medium style again. The oil has a very nice taste with attributes of green and ripe olive, nuts, artichoke and green tomatoes.

Tasting Notes:
Smooth textured oil with fresh grassy and sort fruity aromas complemented by peppery after-taste.

Pairing:
Everything, even chocolate and whenever you use it use plenty.
