Sol d’Oro Southern Hemisphere Olive Oil Competition

The Sol d’Oro Southern hemisphere olive oil competition is around the corner

SA Olive, in association with Veronafiere, will be hosting the 5th annual Sol d’Oro Southern hemisphere olive oil competition at D’Olyfboom in Paarl from 16 to 21 September. The competition was initially set up to promote and raise global awareness of extra virgin olive oils.  It has since gone on to become a landmark event for producers of high quality extra virgin olive oils, as well as a selection platform for international buyers. Both the Southern hemisphere competition and its Northern hemisphere counterpart are organised by Veronafiere-Sol & Agrifood.

The deadline for registration and delivery of samples is 11 September and entries are expected from Australia, New Zeeland, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Brazil and South Africa.

The oils are tasted and judged via the blind tasting method by an international panel lead by Marino Giorgietti. The winning oils are awarded medals in the delicate, medium and intense categories. Winning oils have access to various promotional opportunities in the international market, including participation in international trade fairs, presentation for tasting at the Olive Oil Bar, guided tastings for international buyers and press coverage.
