About Namaqua Olive Estate:
We are situated in the Namaqua, west coast, near Vredendal, a region dominated by the wine industry. We are wine farmers ourselves and were looking for a new challenge so we decided to plant our first olive trees in 2012. We are the first and only commercial olive farmers/oil producers to date in this area.
The Avenant family embarked upon a new adventure growing olives & producing the finest quality extra virgin olive oil in the Olifantsriver Valley. We are only 3 years into production and have won 2 x SA Olive Gold Awards in 2018.
Oil Maker & 2018 Harvest:
Owner Charmaine Avenant juggles olive oil making and the raising of 3 small kids. We struggled to extract the same percentages of oil as yielded in the past, but we knew the quality of the oil being extracted was good. We focused on blending different batches in order to achieve balance, we also picked our olives a bit later than in the past resulting in riper olives.
