About Marbrin Olive Growers:
Marbrin was started in 1997 by my father, Peter, who had always envisioned himself as an olive farmer. My partner, Clive, and I, returned in 2012 after living in London for over a decade, to take over the farm and build the brand.
Clive is our oil producer. He spent a long time in London working in bars and restaurants from around the world, which is where he learnt his love and appreciation for good, and universal, food and wine.
Oil Maker & 2018 Harvest:
It was a difficult year due to the ongoing drought. Olives were ripening quickly. The oil for the Directors Reserve was minimal, but full and intense in flavour with a boldness in both fruitiness and spiciness. To us, it is one of our best intense blends yet.
Good bitter fruitiness balanced by a lingering spiciness with hints of green apple, artichokes and freshly cut grass.
This is a table oil so best poured over salads, fresh pasta and marinading your meats for the braai. Another favourite of ours is homemade olive oil ice cream.
