About Olyfberg Vrugte:
Olyfberg is situated in the Breede River Valley between Worcester and Robertson. It was one of South  Africa’s first commercial olive producers.   The name “Olyfberg” is a reference to the Biblical  “Mount  Olive”.   It all started in 1995 when the Naude’s family bought farmland next to the Breede River,  spurring on their passion for olives, they envisioned the birth of an olive farm along its banks. Within 15 years, Olyfberg became an established brand that has won the internationally acclaimed L’Extravergine Award in 2008 for the best olive oil blend in the world.

Producer History:
In 2015 Van Loveren Family Vineyard partnered with Professor Mohammed Karaan, well-known agricultural academic and member of the National Planning Commission, who then bought the farm from Mr Frikkie Naude and his wife Daniela. André and Francis Lourens have been managing the farm for 21 years, and it is their love and dedication that has made Olyfberg the brand it is today. Olyfberg has been blessed, not only by nature, but also by the sweat and hard work of a dedicated workforce.

Oil Maker & 2018 Harvest:
André and Francis – or Pikkie, as she is affectionately known, manages the farm. They planted the first Mission olive tree at Olyfberg in 1995. They have learnt olive farming the hard way, as very little information was available on local cultivation and production in those early years.  Pikkie started making “cold pressed extra virgin” olive oil in 1999 with an EnoRosi press. In 2002 a Pieralisi Baby machine was bought which was later upgraded to the Pieralisi Genius P4. Both these machines are used for traditional cold extracted extra virgin olive oil, which is still the method we use today. Despite the horrendous drought and challenging growing conditions we experienced this year, we have once again produced world quality olives and olive oil.

Tasting Notes:
The Breede River Valley’s climate can be harsh and inhospitable – but the olive oil created here is soft, fruity and delicate – a wonderful companion to hearty meals. Olyfberg’s olive oil has a lovely light golden yellow colour – a fine and complex aroma with elegant nuances of freshly cut grass, artichoke, lettuce and celery with a hint of basil.

Olyfberg EVOO makes for an excellent dipping for fresh bread or drizzled over bean soup, grilled vegetables and meats.
