About Rio Largo Olive Estate:
Rio Largo Olive Estate is owned by Nick and Brenda Wilkinson and is situated in the Scherpenheuwel valley along the banks of the Breede river between Worcester and Robertson. The dry climate with water on demand from the Breede river coupled with hot dry Karoo days and cool nights blown in by the cold southeaster makes for perfect growing conditions for olives.

Rio Largo practices biological farming methods putting more back into the soils to build soil fertility and ensure sustainability for generations to follow. As a family owned and operated estate, we pride ourselves in standing behind our product and continuously aim to produce quality whilst developing and nurturing both our people and our loyal customer base. Rio Largo produces all oil from its own freshly handpicked olives on the estate and favours Italian style olive oils using Frantoio, Leccino, Coratina and Favalosa cultivars.

Producer History:
Rio Largo was bought by Nick and Brenda in 2010 and has consistently won top honours for the quality of their oil both locally and internationally. Niche markets have been established worldwide and Rio Largo can be found in North America, Europe, the Middle East and as far away as Japan as well as here at home in South Africa.

Oil Maker & 2018 Harvest:
Nick personally runs the Oliomio olive press which was purpose built by Georgio Mori in Italy specifically to maximise oil quality. Georgio, passionate about quality olive oil with a superb pallet, has encouraged and mentored Nick over 9 years to continually up his game and consistently produce world quality premium olive oil.

Tasting Notes:
Good medium nose with aromas of herbs and and asparagus, nice fruit on the palate with almonds, creamed spinach and ripe tomato. Delicate balanced hint of bitterness and elegant subtle pungency. Smooth balanced fresh oil.

Pairing:
Rio Largo gold is a balanced delicate oil and can be used to add flavour to all food and specifically salads, drizzled over fresh bread or vanilla ice cream, in soups and with fish.
