A small group of olive oil lovers came together yesterday to refine their olive oil experience and tasting skills.
Professional taster and 2019 SA Olive awards tasting panel leader, Müge Nebioğlu, presented this olive oil tasting workshop at d’Olyfboom Family Estate in Paarl. Participants were taken through the steps of smelling, tasting, and attributing various flavour profiles to the oils. They were presented with 10 oils – some were perfect extra virgin olive oils, but a handful had specific defects to enable the participants to ascertain when an olive oil is not extra virgin.
The tasting workshops form part of SA Olive’s activities around the SA Olive awards judging week and the actual awards ceremony.
