Following the announcement of the 2020 #SAOliveAwards & #AbsaTop10 Olive Oils Awards in South Africa, we are presenting a series of interviews with each Gold winning producer.

Producer history: At Adhara EVOO QUALITY OVER QUANTITY is the motto. With just under 3000 trees, Fraaigelegen Farm, home of Adhara EVOO, focuses on being an ethically minded small business.
Love, passion and labour goes into producing this most delicious EVOO. Venishree broke the glass ceiling for her artisanal brand as the first female producer/owner of colour in South Africa. Adhara EVOO is produced in the Tulbagh valley of the Cape Winelands. After the launch in August 2018, Adhara EVOO has notched 5 accolades to date, with the last two being gold and two silver medals, as well as Best Design in Africa award (Olio Nuovo Days Paris/Abu Dhabi) in 2020.
Regenerative farming is practiced, to bring back the biology into the soil – it is about harmony and balance, which is evidenced in its taste and quality. LOVE LIFE, LOVE EVOO.
Short introduction to the oil maker & his/her comment on the 2020 harvest: Our oil is pressed in collaboration with Oakhurst.
Tasting notes: Well-balanced grassy oil with green flavours reminiscent of fresh artichoke and a nutty taste, giving a great mouthfeel which adds lovely depth and flavour to enhance all dishes.
Best paired with which food: Intense flavoured olive oils, spicy, peppery, bold, grassy, with hints of tomatoes and herbs are good for pasta dishes, soups and stews, strong cheeses, seafood, potatoes, sauces, and spicy meals (our favourite is Durban style Lamb Curry), amongst other things!
